The IGRA History and Mission

History of the I.G.R.A.

Founded more than six decades ago, the Idaho Girls Rodeo Association (IGRA) proudly continues its tradition of rodeo excellence. In 2026, IGRA will celebrate its 70th year of rodeo competition, serving more than 175 cowgirls of all ages and abilities across the state of Idaho.

What makes IGRA truly unique is its multi-generational competition format, where contestants often compete side by side with their grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and nieces, creating a strong sense of family, mentorship, and tradition within the arena.

The mission of IGRA is to produce and promote safe, competitive rodeos, support the western heritage and lifestyle, and mentor young people in sportsmanship and personal development. Through our programs, we strive to nurture and demonstrate the values of charity, community, leadership, self-confidence, and empowerment. As an extended rodeo family, IGRA believes that our multi-generational environment provides meaningful opportunities to lead by example while enjoying outstanding rodeo competition.

IGRA rodeos are held monthly from April through September and feature a wide range of events, including:

  • Barrel Racing

  • Pole Bending

  • Goat Tying

  • Breakaway RopingĀ

  • Team Roping

  • Steer Daubing
